AI through a UI: chats, AI editors and IDE extensions
Essence
You can work with AI through a graphical interface on three levels: chat apps (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini), AI editors (Cursor, Devin Desktop — formerly Windsurf, Antigravity) and extensions for your usual IDE (GitHub Copilot for VS Code and Xcode, Xcode's built-in assistant). They differ in how much project context the model sees and whether it can make changes on its own.
The rule of thumb: the closer a tool is to the code, the less copy-paste, and the more you need to control what it changes.
