What an AI software factory is and what actually works in 2026
Essence
An "AI software factory" isn't a product but a way of organizing development as a pipeline: a human states the intent and accepts the result, and agents carry out the stages in between, from specification to build. The key idea: a factory's quality is set not by the model but by the checks at each handoff. An agent can write anything; only what passes tests, CI and review moves down the line.
The term itself is marketing, and people mean different things by it: from "agents open PRs, humans merge" to "humans don't read the code at all". It helps to know the spectrum and be able to explain where your team sits on it.
