An AI step in CI is just another job, with two twists: its output is non-deterministic, and its input includes text written by outsiders (PR descriptions, code, logs). So treat the AI job like a new team member you don't trust yet: minimal permissions, no signing secrets, a budget cap and a human who makes the call. In practice four scenarios work well in CI: PR review, release notes, triage of failed tests and auto-fixes delivered as a separate PR.
